We received an inquiry from Vladimir Djurovic of VDLA early last year to ask for help with an exciting and challenging new project in London. The AKDN in Kings Cross, consisted of a number of gardens. Each garden was to give the feeling and aesthetic of a particular part of the world.
We have just returned from a short trip to Italy to inspect a mock-up of Grigio Perla for the Schroders fit out at London Wall. The journey for the project team – TP Bennett, Overbury, Schroders – started in Milan and specifically the Grigio Perla quarry visited earlier this year for the same project.
We visited the ESTREMOZ MAROTEIRA – CM quarry near Vila Vicosa this week. We went to see the beautiful white section of the quarry currently being prepared and will shortly yield huge blocks of the very best white available.
We are proud to be working with Fletcher Priest on 45 Cannon Street. We are currently in the process of supplying to Bouygues UK, 1100no solid pieces of Urban Grey 128mm thick, that line every window of this new exciting office building in the City.
GDStones is more than just a stone supplier. The journey from a client’s initial idea to the full shipment of stone delivered to site is a long and complex one, and that’s the way we like it. Because by taking so much care through the entire process, we ensure clients get exactly what they need, at the very best quality. This is how it works:
We worked with W.B. Simpson & Sons Specialist Contractors, Studiolise Designers and Simon Morray Jones Architects on this exciting residential project in West London. A stunning showcase of our material inside and out. The focus for us was on finding the right material for the pool area in the new and expansive basement. This huge space was to house the gym, swimming pool and plunge pool, changing area and bathrooms.
We are currently supplying around 1000sqm 50mm Pietra Del Mare Limestone to clad the New Embassy in London. The specification started 3-4 years ago with Dunston Limestone from Lincoln. This ideal material swiftly progressed to a French alternative to accommodate the sizes and quantity required. However the French limestone from Metz was from an aggregate quarry and the colour changed considerably over the period of specification and by the time the stone was needed we had to find something else! Another search and another solution. This time it was Pietra Del Mare. A limestone supplied by Grassi Pietre in Vicenza. This was not a million miles away from the original spec both in colour and structure and very consistent too.
This week we took a trip the incredible quarry of Grigio Perla . With orders being placed imminently for the exciting Schroders London Wall project we thought it good to take a quick trip out to see the current extraction and discuss the project in more detail. The quarry (working since 1897) and factory have got to be in one of the most unique settings with views across Lago d’iseo The factory building is in typical 1950’s style and the quarrying now inside the mountain. So nothing really upsets these unusually tranquil surroundings.
Inspection of the 38mm and 40mm Atlantic slabs cut for the Fosters + Partners – 551 West 21st Street, New York project that we are supplying.
